Team

Medical leadership, nursing care, therapeutic expertise — all under one roof.

At RECURIO, Dr. W. Gruther leads as the principal physician — supported by a close-knit team of nurses, therapists, and  patient management staff. Together, we care for people living with persistent pain, delayed recovery, and complex conditions. Our goal is medicine that is clinically rigorous, genuinely human, and clearly understandable in everyday life.

Dr. Wolfgang Gruther — Lead Physician

RECURIO is led by Univ.-Lecturer Dr. Wolfgang Gruther, MSc. The name RECURIO, derived from the Latin recuro — meaning “I heal again” — reflects our commitment to guiding patients step by step back towards greater function, stability, and quality of life.

Dr. Gruther is a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with extensive experience as a senior physician at the University Department of PMR at AKH Vienna. His focus lies in caring for patients with chronic pain, functional limitations, and complex recovery trajectories.

He works where simple explanations fall short: when back pain persists despite repeated assessment, when symptoms following surgery do not resolve as expected, or when structural and systemic factors interact in ways that are difficult to untangle.

Alongside his clinical and academic work, Dr. Gruther brings a deliberately broad medical perspective. In addition to his university training in Western medicine, he completed a clinical continuing education programme in Traditional Chinese Medicine in China — an experience that has deepened his understanding of functional and holistic connections, without shifting evidence-based medicine from the centre of his practice.

“I want to do more than name a complaint — I want to understand how it came about, and from that understanding, develop a clear, medically sound, and lasting path forward.”

What Patients Come to RECURIO For

Many people come to RECURIO with one wish: to finally receive a medical assessment that genuinely brings together their test results, their symptoms, and the history of their condition.

This often applies to situations such as:

  • Recurring back or joint pain despite previous treatment

  • Persistent symptoms following surgery or injury

  • Exertional intolerance, fatigue, or brain fog after infection

  • Unclear trajectories where previous findings and daily reality do not quite add up

At the centre of every consultation is always the same question: What is medically plausible — and what is the most sensible next step?

Our Approach

We listen carefully. We do not promise miracles. And we do not rely on buzzwords — but on medical plausibility, experience, and responsible care.

Patients at RECURIO should never feel like just another appointment in a long list — but rather that they have found a place where their situation is taken seriously and assessed with genuine clinical depth.

The People Behind RECURIO

A good experience at a medical practice depends not only on clinical expertise — but on every single person who contributes to making you feel well cared for from the very first moment.

That starts at reception, continues through the treatment rooms, and does not end until you have walked out of the door. Every member of our team plays their part in ensuring that at RECURIO, everything feels right — not just medically, but humanly.
